Wow such a lot to write about today; I am unable to come up with a creative title so here you are getting the whole mish-mash of what has been going on as I wanted to touch on a few issues today.
The following books are ones that are “Next” on my reading list, OR are currently on my shelf waiting for me to pick them up :-). For these reasons I am unable to write a review, however they come highly recommended to me by clients, friends and fellow professionals, and so may draw you to their wisdom. They are not listed in any particular order.
Recommended books that may help you along the journey of self-discovery……..
I have always been an avid reader; spending a whole day curled up on the sofa in between the franticness of an active childhood was nothing strange to me. My mum was and is the very same; only she quite literally devours books at the speed of lightening, and she is my go to person for a perfect spelling and grammar check.

Books are where you lose yourself as a child and live a double life. I travelled far and wide; Mary O’Hara transported me to the great plains of Wyoming in My Friend Flicka and other novels, I was transported into The Enchanted Woods by Enid Blyton and then became a member of The Famous 5; I travelled with Toad in The Wind in the Willows, fell in love with The Fox cub Bold and The Animals of Farthing Wood, and I sailed boats in balmy summers in Swallows and Amazons. And who forgets Peter Rabbit? My childhood is mile stoned by books when I wasn’t out creating my own adventures with my brothers.
“I think the irony is that as we become adults we lose ourselves to a double life of others expectations, should do’s and must be’s, only to later re-find ourselves in books.”
We all have a very personal journey with books, and so my list really can only reflect what I have been drawn to and found helpful for me or helpful for my clients. I am incredibly time stressed so my love of reading books and the amount read in the past years sadly isn’t reflected in the vast number of books I have on my shelves. I will someday, get through them all, they all speak to me and when the time is right I will learn their mysteries, lessons and insights.
Books that I have found helpful on my own journey and that I recommend to various clients include the following. I cannot promise to have read each from front to back; however I have found some gems within these books which helped me with what I was after in the moment.
The secret to the following books is to read what you are drawn to; don’t ask questions or analyse the front or back too much. With books there is a magic far more special than logic can define, I am convinced that the book chooses you…..
When the sun shines in Ireland – my flirtations with food, friends and coffee in the sunny strawberry counties………
I don’t normally blog about trips; however when I take to the road my passion is visiting coffee shops and also exploring the gluten-free options available so that I can ‘phone home’ and inform my clients and support them on their travels when they take to the road. Also I would like, for my International followers, to help you fall a little more in love with our beautiful island of Ireland.
If I was to go and see a therapist for health reasons, I would spend my bucks on the pricey guy. In fact, the last time I wanted health advice I spent over £400 for an hour (in fact I think it was closer to £600) with top Canadian health guru and strength Coach Charles Poliquin for his time. Why?
I am excited to be at the beginning of the creative process for my 9 week body transformation programme. This is something that has been brewing for a while; however it needed me to take a break from the norm and to come away on holidays to find myself, to really get the inspiration for what I want to produce for you. It will be more than a diet plan; this will be where both you and I embark on a journey…..
If I was good at soulless marketing I would at this point promise you a 90 day money back guarantee, give you my house and declare myself a fraud if I cannot take you from this:
Personally I thought I had done a fair amount of work on switching off the negative self-demons yet an observant friend of mine points out I still have “should have” and “need to”, “don’t know enough and need to study”, “am not fit enough to walk the talk to my clients” and “I don’t help enough people”, in my daily dictionary. Not all the time, however these words sneak in when I feel I have let the ball drop regarding how much I feel I should be doing. There is still a cut-off point below which I feel useless, lazy, and not good enough. Aren’t I lucky to have a friend aware enough in his own journey to be as honest with me as I can be with him and even more honest than I thought I was being with SELF.
I would like to share with you a powerful visualisation that I did today while out walking. It wasn’t that I had anything specific to shed that I felt I was being burdened by; I think my awareness was just on my ‘back’ today as a friend did some massage work on me today that focused on my back and I got to thinking about all the things that we carry around on our backs.
Hello Everybody,
I will keep this post brief as I am away on holidays. However, this YouTube clip by Bruce Lipton is too important to not mention in its own blog as well as in brief passing on Facebook.
Beliefs have PROFOUND effects on the outcome of our lives and our health. Beliefs can change and alter the playing field for our genetics. If you believe that you are at the destiny of your genes please spend 10 minutes and watch this clip; especially if breast cancer runs in the family or affects a close friend or colleague.
How can we influence a positive outcome if we have been dealt a weak genetic hand? This list is not exhaustive (as then this would not be a short blog!) but touches on some areas of importance:
On Saturday I presented my three-hour lecture on sports nutrition for the endurance athlete, in other words runners, marathon runners, adventure racers, triathletes, cyclists and so on.
For a limited time I have decided to post up two parts of the lecture for public viewing.
