How to get into your zen…….
how to find that space xx Enjoy
I love making home-made protein balls and energy bars. They are handy, portable, quick and easy to make; they store well in the fridge and are easy to carry to work and training.
They are so simple to make that your children and teens can make them to bring to school and college for snacking on. And they are an indispensable part of the busy, training and travelling athletes food artillery. There is no better and more economical everyday training snack than these little babies for on the road sports like cycling and adventure racing.
Athletes are made in the kitchen
(and on the bike, in the pool, on the track, pounding the roads, in the gym….)
I have been making these bad boy protein snacks for years; however there now is a veritable treasure trove of online sites specialising in recipes…. simply get your Google on and use your judgement for what constitutes a healthy and a less than healthy recipe; don’t be afraid to tweak it and make substitutions these recipes are VERY forgiving.. I will have more recipes posted in the coming months and available as e-books.
I keep meaning to get a blog up about my stay in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, and my experience of watching the Ironman World Championships 2014…. and life is throwing so many fabulous experiences at me that I am failing to find the time. I am just back to Ireland now after spending three days in Reno Nevada. It has been a fortnight of every emotion and now jet lag. (PS key to jet lag nutritionally is to stick with protein in the am and carbs in the pm).
It was super to get back to Reno; to reconnect to two precious people, to have some me time, and to indulge in some running time. Reno is at 4,400+ feet above sea level and so I was sucking oxygen on my runs and was grateful for the sun to offset the lungs 🙂
I had an amazing week in Kona watching my loved one, new friends, and all sorts of sizes, shapes, speeds, techniques and training gear flash by that was all the other competitors as they hit the roads in their final preparations. Just walking down the street or sitting in a café provided ample opportunity to watch the athletes train in the sweltering sun; while I knocked back another Kona coffee.
{Did you know they have a coffee here called peaberry coffee that due to its lower acidity is gentler on the stomach? If you cannot get to Kona this is available to buy online in addition to the real deal Kona coffee. I digress; back to the blog. Coffee has a way of diverting me in my writing as well as in person!}
This is a superb article that I just stumbled upon that is worth sharing; to read the entire article please click this link: 10 Principles of Unconditional Parenting by Rainbow Recognizer.
Unconditional love is the most important thing that every child deserves to experience in their life from pre-birth to adulthood. In fact I would go so far as to say that unconditional love is something that we all require as part of healthy development; more than anything else. So if as a parent you worry about money, and providing “things”, and education then maybe take a rain check and ask yourself am I loving enough, is it without conditions and am I giving my child time and connection? Be an example of unconditional love in all that you do and in all the ways that you interact with others. Your child learns everything from you.
My Kona IronMan 2014 experience…. Written by the biggest fan of a loved one….

Picture this: a heady mix of athletes and supporters drinking Kona coffee laced with almond milk or iced coconut water, or sitting in cafes offering meal options named after the pros or walking through the town as she prepares once more for IronMan. Then imagine the procession of athletes in training passing on TT bikes or running half-naked showing off bodies that are deeply bronzed, fit, toned and yet showing unspoken vulnerability as they glisten drenched with sweat. Add to this the usual mix of locals and heady honey-moon love. Yep…. a potent busy mix!

This place is buzzing; that there is no denying.
This is my tweak on the traditional pesto and my own pesto recipe to create a ‘pesto’ that adds in healing and detoxification supporting ingredients to your usual diet. Tweaking ‘normal’ foods like this to sneak in even more healthy ingredients is a superb way to add to your diet in a consistent and sustainable way.
I am not a fan of the “all-or-nothing” approach as for many when they slip off the healthy eating phase, they fall and then stay fallen! And when you ‘fall’ you feel bad; and this is not what life is about. Eating healthy should be a decision that is made that makes you feel good and feels good to do so. You, me, or any health professional should not approach health in an overly strict or punishing way. This simply leads to self-esteem issues and is a poor example for our children and peers.
So taking what you like and making it better; is definitely a strategy that will be achievable and far less overwhelming. Agreed there will be some changes that may take adjusting to; and these will be worth it. Chose to focus on where you are going and how you will feel. This is very important.
Here is an article that I stumbled on today that is worth re-blogging.
Please note that apart from the following short intro this is not my writing and is taken from http://www.mindbodygreen.com
If I was to add any words to this to all women it would be:
To love yourself,
To step into your divine feminine strength and power while being graceful and gentle,
To follow your heart,
To listen to your fabulous female intuition,
To never doubt (for too long!),
To allow your partner to be equally strong and vulnerable,
To nurture your creativity,
To give everything a shot,
To love your body and allow it to be where it feels best,
To quit reading magazines about body, weight, and fashion they ALL are marketing something based on finding your weak spots,
To celebrate one another’s strengths
Quit gossiping and finding faults in others,
Don’t compromise all that you are in the workplace – the world needs more women, being women.
Stick to your choices,
Remember that your daughters can read your mind; speak nicely in your thoughts,
Don’t ever diet in the presence of children or teach them that there are bad and good foods,
Be mindful of every word spoken to others and to yourself
and did I say…. Love yourself!!Love yourself like no other will,
and to let love in…

What another amazing week of sunny weather here in Ireland! This photo is taken today on the bridge of my home town Newport, Co. Tipperary; do you ever stop to admire the beauty of where you live?

We had the new moon this week in Libra (September 24th 2014) which means that many of us may have let go of old stuff and jumped into the new; if so well done! Or others were hanging on for dear life or simply not knowing what was going on; this is perfect too. You are always where you are meant to be.
This blog by Astrologer Sonja Francis may help you read a little more and understand on a deeper level what happened this week.
